TV Entertainment Decision Sciences Internships – Academic Year

Academic Year Recruitment Timeline:

JOB DESCRIPTION – 

Academic Year Internship Program:

Program Dates: September 16, 2024 – April 18, 2025 

Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules. 

Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from New York, NY.

The Entertainment Group develops and schedules the network’s primetime, late-night, and daytime entertainment programming, including USA, SYFY, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, and Universal Kids. NBC’s quality programs and balanced line-up have earned the network critical acclaim, numerous awards and ratings success, including most recently winning the traditional September-to-May season in primetime’s key demo, marking the network’s third win in four years. NBC has earned more Emmy Awards than any network in television history.     

 

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 
 

Entertainment Data Engineering: Working as part of our data engineering team, interns will help to design and develop custom decision sciences product for the media industry. Join us as we collaborate across our business to design and implement engineering solutions that drive data-enhanced strategic decisions. Responsibilities will include processing structured and unstructured data into a form suitable for analysis and reporting, to drive state-of-the-art analytics and machine learning applications, operationalizing data science models / products in a cluster-computing environment, building data pipeline frameworks to automate high-volume / real-time data delivery and working with data scientists to understand processes and support feature engineering 

Syndication Research: NBC Universal Syndication Studios produces and distributes such shows as Access Hollywood and The Kelly Clarkson Show, and the research department is responsible for informing producers and executives about their performance in the ratings and on streaming platforms. Interns will distill a large volume of data from a variety of sources, such as Nielsen ratings and digital metrics, into concise and actionable reports that will be used by program executives to help them track the performance of our shows in a highly competitive landscape, look at the ratings on a minute-by-minute basis to determine what segments, guests and topics worked best on our shows, and keep an eye on the digital performance of our shows on a variety of platforms including YouTube, AOL, Apple, and On Domain 

 

 

Basic Requirements: 

Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2024 through April 2025). December 2024 graduates are not eligible for our 2024-2025 Academic Year Program. 

Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits). 

Must be authorized to work in the United States throughout the entire duration of the internship (September 2024 to April 2025) - visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 

Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 16, 2024 to April 18, 2025.  

Must be willing to work in New York, NY. 

 

Desired Characteristics: 

Students with class standing of junior or above preferred. 

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 

Working knowledge of at least two of the following programming languages: Python, R, Pyspark, Angular, JavaScript. 

Working knowledge of Distributed Computing environments. 

Experience working in cloud computing environment, designing solution architecture. 

Experience with Machine Learning and/or statistical modelling. 

Prior experience with SQL and Nielsen a plus, but not required. 

Familiarity with data visualization techniques (knowledge of BI tools a plus: Tableau, Domo, etc.) 

Self-starter with a true love of television and a keen interest in learning about the business. 

Detail oriented and enthusiasm to learn! 

 

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $30.00. 

The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $35.00. 

 

INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ATTENDING U.S. UNIVERSITIES: 

To participate in NBCUniversal’s 2024-2025 Academic Year internship program, you must confirm at the time of interview that you will be able to provide US work authorization for the entire duration of the internship. Since the NBCU Academic Year Internship Program spans the traditional “Fall” and “Spring” semesters, please note that you will need to potentially re-apply for CPT work authorization again to ensure you are authorized to work throughout the entirety of the program. 

 

Please also note that future visa sponsorship at NBCUniversal is rarely available for post-grad employment opportunities. 

 

NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.
