Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Hourly Project Assistant II will work with the Birth Defects Registry (BDR), within the Bureau of Environmental and Occupational Epidemiology at the New York State Department of Health. The incumbent will sit within the Bureau Director’s Section and work directly with epidemiologists, clinicians, data managers, and other surveillance professionals affiliated with the BDR. The BDR conducts passive birth defects surveillance statewide with active case confirmation for certain major birth defects in select regions. The incumbent will assist with efforts to improve processes for integrating active and passive birth defects surveillance data into the Birth Defects Registry Database. This will involve coordinating with stakeholders across different sections within BEOE to document existing processes, identify opportunities for improved efficiency, and assist to develop a strategic plan document. 

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a DrPH program.

Preferred Qualifications 

Demonstrated interest in maternal and child health. Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint or other process mapping software, with experience developing flowcharts. Strong written and oral communication skills.

Conditions of Employment
Grant funded, hourly position expected to last through 08/30/2024. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
