This is a paid, intern position aimed at college level Juniors or Seniors ready to gain real world IT and technology experience. The chosen applicant will work a flexible schedule of 20-25 hours per week earning $18 per hour.

This position can support any of the four Divisions: Operations, Community Engagement & Crime Prevention, Criminal Investigations, and Administrative Support and will be identified based on current department needs. This position will work with both sworn and non-sworn personnel within the Police Department. They may also collaborate with other departments across the city and work with residents and other community stakeholders, depending on the specific division assignment, and assigned duties or tasks. This Intern position is designed to assist individuals interested in law enforcement and law enforcement related careers and to help further their knowledge and exposure to the public safety field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide basic desktop support, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and peripheral issues.
2. Assist with installation, setup, and maintenance of computers, monitors, printers, and related equipment.
3. Support technology within department facilities and vehicles, including in-car computers, peripherals, and other vehicle-based technology.
4. Assist with software installations, updates, and user account support (e.g., password resets, onboarding).
5. Document support requests, track equipment, and maintain accurate records of work performed.
6. Assist with asset inventory, equipment organization, and lifecycle tracking.
7. Provide basic support for audio/visual and meeting room technology.
8. Perform other technology-related duties as assigned to support day-to-day operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Be at least 18 years of age. Have a high school diploma, GED, or evidence of equivalent achievement.
• Have completed a minimum of 45 credit hours, pursuing a degree in a Criminal Justice, Computer Science, or related field is preferred.
• No on-going repetitious history of committing or participating in misdemeanor crimes, whether detected or not.
• A valid state Motor Vehicle Operator’s license, and acceptable driving record required.
Applicants must be able to pass a background check and drug screening (that includes marijuana).
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
1. Good understanding of computer networking in a Windows network environment, including a strong basic knowledge of network protocols and standards such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, and WLAN/LAN/WAN.
2. Basic knowledge in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and email software
3. Good working knowledge of most office machines, including but not limited to computers, printers, scanners, copy machines, etc., with the ability to install most.
4. Strong customer skills
5. Ability to troubleshoot PC hardware, software, and peripheral problems
6. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
7. Ability to maintain effective working relationships and maintain a positive public image
